About Miles Further
Miles Further is a running coaching platform that pairs a deterministic training plan engine, built on the published work of Jack Daniels, Pete Pfitzinger, Stephen Seiler, Joe Friel, and other world-renowned coaches and researchers, with AI augmentation that layers personalized coaching notes, conversational guidance, and adaptive recommendations on top using Anthropic's Claude. Heart rate zone training is the primary intensity framework. The platform serves beginners building their first running base, competitive athletes pursuing race goals, and masters runners who need age-appropriate training protocols, supported by a library of nearly 400 evidence-based coaching principles with explicit source attribution. Miles Further is operated by MSD OutCast, LLC.

Training Data (via Strava)
If you connect your Strava account, Miles Further accesses the following activity data through Strava's official API with your explicit OAuth authorization:
- Activity records (runs, walks, cross-training sessions, and other workouts you record)
- Heart rate, distance, duration, pace, cadence, and elevation
- GPS route data (polylines)
- Activity start time, sport type, and basic metadata
Your Strava OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using Fernet encryption. We never see, store, or transmit your Strava password.
How to revoke Strava access. You have three options, all of which take effect immediately:
- From your Miles Further Account page, click "Disconnect, keep my history" to stop syncing new activities while preserving the data Miles has already imported.
- From your Miles Further Account page, click "Disconnect and delete all Strava data" to revoke access and permanently delete every activity Miles has synced from Strava.
- From Strava's own app settings, revoke Miles Further. Strava sends us a real-time notification of the revocation, and we automatically remove your Strava connection and delete every Strava-sourced activity from our database. Your own coaching notes, RPE entries, planned workouts, and race records are preserved with the activity references cleared.
Coaching Interactions
- Messages you send to Miles Further (your AI coach)
- Miles Further's responses and coaching decisions
- Morning check-ins (HRV, sleep, readiness)
- Post-workout feedback (RPE, leg feel, stress, notes)
Health Information You Choose to Share
During coaching conversations, you may voluntarily share health-related information such as injuries, medications, medical conditions, or other personal health details. Please be aware:
- Miles Further is not a healthcare provider. We are not subject to HIPAA or equivalent medical privacy regulations. We are a fitness coaching application.
- Health information you share in coaching conversations is stored as part of your coaching conversation history in the same manner as all other messages.
- We do not collect or store health information in structured medical records. There are no medication fields, diagnosis fields, or medical history databases.
- Miles Further uses health information you share solely to provide better coaching context (for example, adjusting training around a disclosed injury or noting that a medication may affect heart rate readings).
- Miles Further will always recommend consulting your physician, specialist, or other qualified healthcare provider for medical questions, medication concerns, and injury diagnosis or treatment.
- Do not share information in coaching conversations that you would not be comfortable having stored in a non-medical system. If you need medical privacy protections for health information, please discuss those matters directly with your healthcare provider rather than through Miles Further.
Technical Data
- IP address (for security and rate limiting)
- Browser and device type (for responsive design)
- Usage patterns (page visits, feature usage; no third-party analytics)
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Provide personalized coaching: generate training plans, workout suggestions, and coaching advice tailored to you.
- Calculate training metrics: training load, fitness trends, heart rate zones, personal records.
- Improve your experience: adapt plans based on your feedback, track progress over time.
- Send communications you requested: workout reminders, weekly summaries (controllable in your profile).
- Maintain and secure the service: prevent abuse, troubleshoot issues.
3. AI Processing and Model Training
To provide personalized coaching, your training data is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI. Specifically:
- Summaries of your recent training, feedback, and profile are sent to the AI for each coaching interaction.
- Raw activity data is summarized before being sent. Full GPS tracks and per-second heart rate data are not sent to the AI.
- Anthropic processes this data according to their privacy policy.
- Anthropic does not use your data to train their AI models when accessed through their API.
Your data is never used to train, fine-tune, or develop any AI model. All AI processing is real-time inference only: your training summaries are sent as context for generating a personalized coaching response, then discarded by the AI provider. No datasets are created from your data. No machine learning models are built or improved using your data.
Training plans are generated by a deterministic algorithm that uses fixed workout sequences, rule-based phase allocation, and mathematical recovery formulas. No AI or machine learning is involved in plan creation.
This is the only circumstance in which your data is processed by a third party, and it is solely for the purpose of generating your personalized coaching responses.
4. What We Do NOT Do
- We do not sell your data. Never, to anyone, for any reason.
- We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.
- We do not use third-party analytics. No Google Analytics, no tracking pixels, no ad networks.
- We do not display advertising. Your data is never used for ad targeting.
- We do not profile you for non-coaching purposes. Your data drives your training, nothing else.
- We do not provide medical services. Miles Further is a fitness coaching tool, not a healthcare provider. We do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or store structured medical records.
5. Data Storage and Security
- Data is stored on secured servers with encrypted connections (SSL/TLS).
- Strava API tokens are encrypted at rest using Fernet encryption.
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms. We cannot read your password.
- Database backups are encrypted and stored securely.
- Access to production systems is restricted to authorized administrators.
6. Data Retention
